What is the easiest way to keep my software current?

One of the most important capabilities of ENERCALC SEL is its "Web Update" capability.

You can configure the SEL so that each time it is launched and it detects an active Internet connection, it will check with our server to see if a more recent discoverable build is available.  You can also click Help > Check For Updates in the menu bar to see if a more recent discoverable build is available and to choose to have it installed.  Note that both of these methods will only check for discoverable updates, which are typically major updates.

This "update check" is performed by a program called EC6WEBUPDATE.EXE that is installed with your software.  It can only be launched through the main ENERCALC_20_Web_Update_Check.exe program file and uses TCP/IP-HTTP Internet protocol over port #80 to check a small text file at www.enercalc.com for the most recent discoverable build.

Note! The ENERCALC_20_Web_Update_Check.exe only works if launched from ENERCALC SEL.  It can not be launched by itself.

Important: Updates fall into one of two categories: "discoverable" or "non-discoverable".  Discoverable updates are typically those that are deemed to be more significant to the majority of the user base.  Non-discoverable updates are generally relatively minor in nature.  Drawing this distinction provides us with a way to strike a reasonable balance between issuing timely new builds versus becoming bothersome to users with constant update notifications. The Web Update system built into the program only alerts the user if there is a new "discoverable" update available.  To be absolutely assured that your software is updated to the latest available build, you can always visit the "For Our Users" page of our website http://www.enercalc.com/users.html, and note the latest available build number.  If you wish to update to that build, you can do so from the following link: https://install.enercalc.com/EC20_update/EC20_UPDATE.EXE.
