Why does the Beam on Elastic Foundation module report no results or a message about "Invalid Model"?

The Beam on Elastic Foundation module uses analytical springs to idealize the behavior of compressible soil.  But the solver does not have the ability to deactivate springs that tend to go into tension.  This means that the module is incapable of properly analyzing conditions where the resultant falls outside the kern and some portion of the footing has zero soil pressure.

If this condition is detected, the program suppresses results and displays a banner in the upper-right corner of the screen to announce that the beam has upward, off-soil deflection, and that the model is invalid.
