Connecting to the Internet Activation Server

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

How does the software connect to the activation server?

FOR SEL BUILDS ON OR AFTER 10.19.***:

The activation server at enercalc.net (not www.enercalc.net) is contacted on port 443 (HTTPS / SSL)  We use this simple connection to get through firewall and anti-virus software.  Our software uses standard HTTPS REST API calls to process license activation. If the software cannot contact the server, it’s usually because your firewall or anti-virus software does not allow our ENERCALC.EXE program access to the Internet.  In rare cases a user will have a proxy server that cannot be automatically located.

FOR SEL BUILDS ON OR BEFORE 10.18.***:

The activation server is contacted on port 80 using the IP address 54.88.93.167 for www.mykron.com.  This is not a URL that will display a meaningful web page.  We use this simple connection to get through firewall and anti-virus software.  The data sent is an encrypted text string.  If the software cannot contact the server, it’s usually because your firewall or anti-virus software does not allow our EC6.EXE program access to the Internet.  In rare cases a user will have a proxy server that cannot be automatically located.
