# Exporting and Importing Calculations

How to export a single calculation to its own new ENERCALC Project file, and import calculations from another Project file into the current one.

The Project Manager includes two buttons for moving calculations between Project Files. **Export to Other Project** copies the highlighted calculation out to its own new Project File, and **Import** copies one or more calculations in from another Project File.

## Exporting a Calculation

Use **Export to Other Project** to save the highlighted calculation as its own new ENERCALC Project File.

1. Highlight a single calculation in the calculation list. Only one calculation can be exported at a time.
2. Select **Export to Other Project**.
3. In the **Export Calculation to New Project File** dialog, choose a name and location for the new Project File. The calculation can't be exported into a Project File that's currently open. If a file with the chosen name already exists, you're prompted before it's replaced.
4. When prompted **Keep the saved report in the exported file?**, choose **Yes** to keep the saved report, or **No** for a smaller file whose report is regenerated the next time the file is opened.

The new Project File contains a single "Calculations" division holding the exported calculation with a fresh Calc ID. After the export finishes, you're offered the option to open the new Project File. If the export can't be completed, your existing files aren't changed.

## Importing Calculations

The Import button is located as shown below:

Clicking the Import button will change the Project Manager screen to appear as shown in the following image.

Please see the descriptions following the numbered keynotes. The order of the notes follows the order of usage.

**(1)** Specify the source ENERCALC Project File from which you will import calculations into the current (destination) Project File.

Clicking the \[**Select Source File**] icon will display a standard Windows File Open dialog:

![](https://3283832020-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FiBJmBoewuy4ZcBC7RF3m%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-8feb0f512f889080a2252451948d0239883407c4%2FProject%20Manager%20-%20Import%20Example.2.png?alt=media)

**(2)** After identifying the source Project File, area **(2)** will show the calculations in that source file in a tree-structure list.

**(3)** Click on the desired calculation in the source file to select it. It will become highlighted.

**(4)** Click in the current (destination) Project File to highlight a line where the calculation should be imported. (The only restriction is that calculations cannot be imported into the GENERAL Division or the LOADS & FORCES Divisions, so be sure to select a location other than those two Divisions or any of their contents.)

**(5)** Click the \[**Copy Calc(s) Into Project at Highlight**] button.

Notice in the image below the \[Wood Beam] calculation is now highlighted in green in the current (destination) file to indicate the location where it will be inserted.

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: If you made a mistake and want to cancel the selection, just highlight the calculation in green on the left and click the \[**Remove Added Calc**] button **(6)**.
{% endhint %}

**(7)** To finish the import process click the ![](https://3283832020-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FiBJmBoewuy4ZcBC7RF3m%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-52bc894cedc3e4ca67bf40b52af2f0b861eaa154%2Fclip0192_was_BMP.jpg?alt=media) button.

**(8)** To completely cancel the import click the ![](https://3283832020-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FiBJmBoewuy4ZcBC7RF3m%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0ac218d87057b66c7cd321fb5e6f12e1d910a4f0%2Fclip0193_was_BMP.jpg?alt=media) button.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Imported calculations will NOT include any linked loads found on the original calculations and will not be available for Linked Load selection until they've been opened & saved or their report has been regenerated.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://enercalc.com/docs/sel-user-manual/project-manager/calculation-list/importing-calculations.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
