# Changing Default Values

How to change the default input values in SEL calculation modules and revert to as-installed defaults.

## How can the default values be changed within the calculation modules?

Most input values in calculation modules have stored default values or settings. You can change many of them:

1. Open a new calculation of the particular module of interest.
2. Revise all of the initial values and settings as desired so that they represent the desired default values or settings.
3. On the top menu bar, select **Settings**.
4. Select **Default Values > Save**.

The program saves the current values as that module's defaults, and it uses them when you add a calculation to a Project File.

## How can I revert to the original default values as-installed for all calculation modules?

The easiest way to revert to the original defaults is to delete `EC6DefValues.tps`, which is typically located at `C:\Users\[username]\Documents\ENERCALC Data Files`.

## How can I reset the defaults for a single calculation module?

No built-in command resets one module's defaults to its as-installed values. Deleting `EC6DefValues.tps` resets every module.

To restore a reasonable set of defaults for a single module without affecting the others:

1. Open a calculation of that module that has a generic, representative setup. A good source is the `examples.ec6` Project File installed with ENERCALC, typically located at `C:\Users\Public\Documents\ENERCALC Common Data Files\examples.ec6`.
2. Confirm the input values and settings are the ones you want as defaults.
3. On the top menu bar, select **Settings**.
4. Select **Default Values > Save**.

This overwrites only that module's stored defaults, leaving the other modules untouched.

**NOTE:** This re-saves defaults from an example calculation rather than the original as-installed values, so it produces a sensible generic starting point rather than an exact factory reset for that single module.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://enercalc.com/docs/sel-faq/using-the-software/general-operation/changing-default-values.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
