# Creating a Project

How to create a new ENERCALC project and understand the divisions it starts with.

Selecting **Create Project** opens the **Create a New Project** window. Give the project a **Name**, optionally a **Description**, then select **Create Project**.

There is no file name to invent, no folder to choose, and no extension to remember. The name you type here is how the project appears in your list, and you can rename it later from the project's row menu.

Once created, the new project is immediately opened and displayed in the Project Manager. You can see in the screen image below that the new project looks rather plain and simple.

<figure><img src="https://1931013002-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FCJiQeXXhOF4Ta3ofhPzy%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5324e150d590586c785dbffbd2b201ac362cccd2%2Fsample-project-manager.png?alt=media" alt="The Project Manager for the newly created Sample Session project, showing the General and Calculations divisions with no calculations yet"><figcaption><p>A newly created project in the Project Manager</p></figcaption></figure>

Notice that the only items appearing in the calculation list are the **General** Division and a "starter" **Calculations** Division.

You can create as many Divisions as you like. They serve as a way to organize your calculations into logical groups for your convenience.

All newly created projects contain these Divisions by default. The **General** Division cannot be renamed or deleted, and it serves a specific purpose, which we will see shortly. But the **Calculations** Division is just created for convenience. It can be renamed, deleted, copied, and so on.

Before we add any calculations to this project, the next step will be to enter some general information about the project itself.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://enercalc.com/docs/onboarding/sample-session/setting-up-a-project/creating-a-project.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
