# Install ENERCALC

How to install ENERCALC on Windows or Mac, and how to run the web version with no install at all.

## Choose how you run ENERCALC

{% hint style="info" %}
**NOTE:** You don't need to install ENERCALC to access the web version.
{% endhint %}

## Install on your computer

Install ENERCALC locally on every computer that runs the software. Don't install it on one computer and run it from another computer through a shortcut. The software won't run correctly in that configuration.

You can install ENERCALC on any computer where you might use it.

### Check the system requirements

ENERCALC for Windows requires Windows 10 or later.

### Download the installer

<a href="https://install.enercalc.app/win/ENERCALC-Setup.exe" class="button primary" data-icon="download">Download the ENERCALC installer for Windows</a>

The link always provides the most recent software build. Download a new installer when you install the software, because builds are updated regularly.

### Install the software

Start the downloaded installer, then follow these steps.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Accept the license agreement

Setup opens on **License Agreement**. Press **Page Down** to read the rest of the agreement, then select **I Agree**. You have to accept the agreement to install ENERCALC.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the installation options

Next, **Choose Installation Options** asks who the application is for. Select **Anyone who uses this computer (all users)** or **Only for me**, then select **Next**.

Installing for all users needs administrator permission, so Windows asks you to approve Setup and the License Agreement appears a second time. Accept it again to continue.

If ENERCALC is already installed for your account, this screen says so and Setup reinstalls or upgrades it in place.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the install location

Next, **Choose Install Location** shows the **Destination Folder**. The default is your per-user program folder, `C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Programs\ENERCALC`, and we recommend that you keep it. To install somewhere else, select **Browse**. The screen also lists the space required and the space available.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**WARNING:** Install on the local computer. A remote drive can prevent ENERCALC from running correctly.
{% endhint %}

Select **Install**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Finish installation

Setup copies the program files, then shows **Completing ENERCALC Setup**. Leave **Run ENERCALC** selected to start the app straight away, then select **Finish**.

### Check the system requirements

ENERCALC for Mac requires a Mac with Apple Silicon.

### Download the installer

<a href="https://install.enercalc.app/mac/ENERCALC-mac-arm64.dmg" class="button primary" data-icon="download">Download the ENERCALC installer for Mac</a>

The link always provides the most recent software build. Download a new disk image when you install the software, because builds are updated regularly.

### Install the software

Open the downloaded disk image, then follow these steps.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open the disk image

Open `ENERCALC-mac-arm64.dmg` from your Downloads folder. A window opens showing the ENERCALC app next to your Applications folder.

<figure><img src="https://3955293234-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fo0Hz1rmQ42N26pw3zzDH%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-549c2c383698e01336f242b96a6955a2c6f06204%2Finstall-mac-drag.png?alt=media" alt="The mounted ENERCALC disk image showing the app icon, an arrow, and a shortcut to the Applications folder"><figcaption><p>Drag ENERCALC into Applications.</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Drag ENERCALC into Applications

Drag the ENERCALC icon onto the **Applications** folder. macOS copies the app, which may take a moment.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Run ENERCALC

Open **Applications** and launch **ENERCALC**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

Installation is complete, and you can now proceed to [sign in to ENERCALC](/docs/installation-activation/account/sign-in.md).

## Run the web version instead

You don't have to install anything. ENERCALC also runs in a browser, so you can sign in and work without an installer, without a local program folder, and without reserving a seat on a specific computer.

To get started, see [Sign In](/docs/installation-activation/account/sign-in.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://enercalc.com/docs/installation-activation/installation/install.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
